DESCRIPTION
The Model United Nations format simulates the proceedings of the United Nations, offering participants a unique opportunity to engage in diplomatic discourse and negotiation on global issues. MUN debates involve larger teams representing different countries or diplomatic entities, with each participant assuming the role of a specific delegate. MUN debates prioritise research, diplomatic skills, and consensus-building, as delegates collaborate to draft resolutions addressing complex international challenges. MUN debates often feature extensive parliamentary procedures and adherence to diplomatic protocol, reflecting the intricacies of real-world democracy.
RULES
Participants are assigned specific countries and take on the roles of diplomats.
Formal language and diplomatic decorum are expected.
Debates are structured, following specific order of speakers.
Resolutions are proposed, debated and voted upon.
STRUCTURE
Participants are allocated to UN committees reflecting actual UN, each representing a member country and advocating its stance on global issues.
Deliberations focus on tackling and resolving global challenges, guided by structured discussions led by committee chair.
MUN debate prioritize skill development, including consensus building, diplomatic negotiation and deepening understanding of international relations.
The emphasis lies on fostering diplomatic skills and enhancing knowledge of international relations through simulated debates.
